Laparoscopic surgery is the name given to a variety of surgical techniques used to gain access into the heart and abdomen. These surgical techniques are often combined with open-heart surgery for better results. This type of surgery typically requires smaller tools than other forms of surgical instruments. These tools are small enough to be easily introduced into the body through tiny incisions. The most commonly used Laparoscopic devices are the suction-driven da Vinci robot, da Vinci defibrillator, and laparoscopic cardiopulmonary bypass.
Laparoscopic devices come in many varieties including those for bariatric surgery, cardiac surgeries, and pediatric surgeries. These devices can be used for either general surgery or bariatric surgery. General surgery involves surgeries such as cardiothoracic surgery, mammoplasty, and orthopedic surgery. Bariatric surgery is used to reduce the size of the stomach by performing weight loss surgeries such as gastric band surgery, Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery, and duodenal switch. Cardiac and pediatric surgeries are typically performed using devices similar to the ones used in pediatric heart surgery.
Before utilizing laparoscopic instruments, hospital staff must undergo thorough training on how to operate the instruments. This is usually provided by the staff of the hospital where the doctor works. Laparoscopic devices are used in conjunction with stents and other forms of sterilization. These different types of sterilization techniques must all be applied together for the devices to be operated correctly. If one is operated incorrectly, serious complications may result. One type of surgical instrument that is most commonly used in hospitals is the laparoscope.
A laparoscope is a slim, tube-shaped medical instrument that is used to examine a person's internal organs or wounds with the help of three lighted instruments, called light channels, placed around the patient's body. These instruments are operated via a remote control that sends the light signals on to specialized instruments that can either examine the organ or area of the patient's body that needs to be examined. Recently, in April 2021, Genesis MedTech entered into strategic distribution agreement with LivsMed to launch ArtiSentinal, a novel laparoscopic technology.
